"I acknowledge my sin
And my sin is ever before me." Psalm 51
The 51st Psalm is usually credited to David, and is known as his prayer of repentance after being confronted by Nathan about his relationship with Bathsheba.
Whether this is the case or not, the psalm certainly is a strong and bold confession of sin and repentance, with a certain hope that God will hear and forgive.
Probably most of us identify with the psalmist. We may not have acted as David did, but none the less, we have done wrong, and sorrow for having done so.
The importance of such confession cannot be overestimated. Unconfessed and unforgiven, our sin has a way of blocking our relationship with God and with one another.
To know that God does hear and forgive us is very important to our spiritual health. It si also important to our life with family, friends, and others with whom we live and work. To know that no barriers exist between us which would keep us from having a full and complete life.
Today, let us test and examine our ways, see if there be any wicked way in us, and repent and return to God.
