"Lord, You know all about me
All about my rising up and my sitting down" - Psalm 139
Many years ago, as a small lad, I understood that God was always watching me, and knew all about me - all that I said, all that I did, even all that I thought! Now, I was not a 'bad boy' but that was just too much! For "watching" and "knowing" had a negative connotation: I thought God watched and knew and he would punish accordingly if I was not good.
Imagine the joy that flooded my life when I discovered that watching and knowing we a bring and protective attitude instead. I was delighted! The psalmist in 139 has this kind of joy. Yes, God knows all about us, but loves and cares and protects in spite of our best or worse actions. God's care does not depend on our goodness. It is, instead, the very nature of God, the very will of God to care for , protect, and redeem his people, Israel, whom God Loves.
Today, may we experience the "besetting God" and do so with the assurance that in all things God works for good with those whom He loves. Amen
