The opening lines of the Old Testament bear witness to a basic truth of Scripture: God always seems to move in our midst to bring order out of Chaos. often it is when the world seems to be most .chaotic that God's action is most apparent. The people of Israel were in bondage and Moses was sent to deliver them. The people were in captivity and God called them through Cyrus back home again.
Over and over the Psalmist sees tis movement from chaos to order, from sin to redemption, from deep difficulty to being lifted up and set upon a high place - from sinking sand to solid rock. The metaphors are replete throughout the Psalms.
In our lives, there is always a certain amount of chaos - difficult decisions, experiences of pain and loss and heartache. All these add up to a sense of "woe is me." Only to hear the voice of the Lord calling to us, reaching out, and bringing his light out of our darkness. Amen.
