Favorite Scriptures

"Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1

When you consider favorite scriptures, this passage on the Peace of God which comes to our hearts through faith in Jesus Christ stands out as most appropriate. The peace of God, which passes all understanding is undergirded by the faith which has these dimensions:

1. Faith as trust. The very words itself bespeaks a relationship of complete willingness to hear, be with, give to, share with, the absence of fear and anxiety. Trust is the very core of the Peace we experience in God, who alone is worthy of our allegiance.

2. Faith as knowledge, truth. Not only is Jesus the truth in the midst of many trials, but is the True One. To believe what he has said, what he has done, to experience in him the very essence of life is to experience peace about knowing. We are not brushed about by every voice, for his is the voice we know and follow.

3. Faith as commitment. The very hear of commitment is obedience. To bear witness to God's gracious gift of love and freedom is to know peace as faithfulness as we hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. amen..
