"Be ye therefore steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the world of the Lord." 1Corinthians 15:58 "Be not weary in well doing, for you shall reap in due season if you do not faint" Galatians 6:9

Steadfastness or diligence in labor is a virtue that has long been associated with the Protestant Ethic. We are definitely work oriented. But there is more to this passage than just the value of our work. It also indicates the importance of not giving up if we are standing for a purpose, or believe that a goal is worthy of being pursued. The distinguished senator from Nebraska mentioned in "Profiles of Courage" was once asked, "Don't you become discouraged in defeat after defeat?" For this particular senator had introduced more bills that were defeated than any other congressman in his day. His response, "no, for I have seen time and time again ideas I have espoused arise out of the ashes of defeat and like the Phoenix, live again."

Reflected on how many great ideas dreams you have known that at first seemed to fail, only to rise out of persistence and live because of their value. Amen.
