Spiritual Movement |
One of the most impressive games of my childhood was "King of the Mountain." It only took a small mound, but to get to and stay at the top was the goal of every game. The one on the top the longest was the king of the mountain. How often do we reach for the top - the place of honor, the place of leadership, where we know more, or have the edge on others?
It is into this kind of world Jesus came saying, "He who would be great among you, let him become servant of all. He showed us what that servanthood was - in extreme- he became the suffering servant- who gave us life that the world through him might be saved. John A.T. Robinson speaks of Jesus as the man who wasforothers. Can't you just hear Jesus saying "Keep going! I'm for you!" "I'm in your favor, I'm with you all the way." And then gave his life that such a statement would be true.
It is such servant living that caused the conflict that ultimately made him lose his life. For one to be for others in this way was intolerable for all who saw and heard him. Yet it was and is this servanthood that truly leads to life.
